Japanese support? [Sep. 9th, 2004|03:13 pm]

I'm using LogJam 3.0.3 (because that's the package that comes with Debian by defaut), and I've been trying to find out if there's any Japanese input (and EUC) support for it. Not having found it (or even been able to beat Mozilla into supporting entering Japanese text -- I guess I'll worry about that later, since I still want that for other things) I threw together a quick program to convert iso-2022-jp to HTML (not really an elegant solution when every character is an &#nnnnn; unicode escape), but I was hoping to at least be able to paste Japanese characters into here directly (I can always write the Japanese in Emacs, that's no big deal, I'm not really worried about getting kinput2 running or anything).

I am (of course) more than willing to upgrade to 4.4.x or whatever if it will do that, but all things being equal, I'd just as soon stick with the Debian package. I don't care about localizations (my primary language is English), just posting in Japanese occasionally. I suppose I'd be willing to pitch in to help do it, although I have no idea how to do such a thing in GTK or whatever.

Only woody has 3.0.3 -- if you try unstable or testing, you'll have 4.4.0, which is much better :)
