don't need to log out and in, just go to "change user" and "update information" and it will update for you.
The problem is that a lot of people seem to have this problem. It's totally not obvious that you'd have to go to "Change User" to update the information, especially if you've never seen that dialog in a 4.3.x version.
*nod* I know, just thought I'd answer since i knew the answer to that one :)
I have a few journals, so I'm used to the changing users stuff, although it was logout before obviously... and the update information bit is new, but I guess we'll get used to it. We get used to other counter-intuative things... maybe they will change it for the next version *shrugs* I dunno... ok I'm rambling now...

your comments drive me nuts.
don't criticize blindly, propose fixes.
I'm just being an end user here, not a developer. It's up to you to actually write the thing. But the way I see it (and the way people are probably used to), the login screen would come back on logjam startup and just have a "work offline" button at the bottom.
have a "work offline" button at the bottom.
How would that help?
I agree with the rest though, I'd like to have the login button come back and just be able to login/logout, granted that's because that is what I'm used to. I think I could get used to the new way it works. I think.
The whole point of the new user-handling system, as I understand it, was so that everything didn't depend on a user being logged in. Maybe Work Offline isn't the best title, but something like that so people can write entries without actually being logged in.
Well, don't we already "work offline" with the program doing using a "challenge-authenticate" scheme to deliver posts? Why can't other stuff be done (such as updating your friends list) every time you post?
Usually you want to update your information like communities, etc. *before* you post, not after.
Well, we could have two methods. One manual update and one automatic update. The manual update could be used for when you join a community (or 10) that you want to post to but you don't want to post to your journal, so you initiate a manual update and bam.
Otherwise your friends list (and what communities you have posting access to) could just be updated the next time you make a post to your journal.
Please put "update information" in the main menu just underneath "change user" or something?
Have you tried using the 'Update Information' button in the 'Change User' dialog to refresh things?
you didn't get libtool errors when emerging logjam from portage on gentoo?! damn..i have that problem with an xmms update AND logjam 4.3.2 :(
