not dead yet [May. 26th, 2002|12:31 pm]
Because I've been spending too much time programming lately, here are some more shots of LogJam 3.1.

Spinning pencil icon, thanks to ideas from lj_art.

History view reborn in the old style. (How many people remember when LoserJabber did it like this?)

Friends view with statistics and such.

Instructions for getting LogJam 3.1 can be found at the website.

i'm having a problem with it logging in, i downloaded the cvs, it compiled just fine, but when i try and log in, it just sits at the "loggin in" w/ the pencil spinning.

Hm... what OS? Could you try unchecking the "fork on network requests" in the debug box and trying again?

Aw, man, another Gentoo user was having problems too, but I think I fixed his.

Can you give me backtraces?

it still starts up fine though

Do other GTK2 programs work? Does "gtk-demo" produce that warning?

yeah gtk-demo does give that warning

GIMP 1.3 seems to work ok though

It's working well on gentoo here (sans GtkSpell support - i haven't been able to get GtkSpell working due to pspell/aspell C++ weirdness). I've only had a quick play, but I can log in, edit my friends list and make posts. Looks nice too :)

I'll give the GtkSpell stuff another go at some stage (possibly tonight), and try to sort out what exactly's going wrong with it.

well, since its memorial day weekend, what else am i going to do?

Logjam 3.1 CVS rpms (for Red Hat Linux 7.3):

get gtkspell first.

then, get logjam-3.1cvs20020526

You'll need pspell & gtk2. They work for me.

is this the proper place for comments/suggestions ?
I just tried the cvs, and all up, I love it ... but ...

the friends manager:

I can't seem to sort like the old one
ie: by link type, or by user type

Also, If you're going to use the text color of the user in the "User" column, you should also use the background color. I have all of my users with white text on purple, and as such, now they show up in the friends manager as white text on white background.

Anyway, great aside from that :)

Both of those are issues I'm working on, and both (especially the coloring one) appear to be GTK2 bugs.

If you edit line 557 of friends.c, there's a line commented out:
/* FIXME: gtk bug? "background-gdk", &bg, */
if you change that to
"background-gdk", &bg,
and recompile, you'll get the backgrounds but (at least for me) all the user icons disappear.

Two questions to ask:
  1. There are directions to build debian packages in README.CVS and there is a makedeb script.
But there is no debian directory. This is a bit of a problem.
  2. Is there any way to use logjam to post comments? I don't think so but I thought I'd ask.

1) Ah, yeah... there was a Debian package at one time but everything got rearranged so I haven't had the chance to keep in touch with the Debian maintainer. For now, if you're not running the 3.0 branch (which is in Debian anyway) you can just copy the 3.1 executable somewhere (that's the only file that needs "installing").
2) Nope... sorry. Maybe someday in the future. :)

Re: slow spell check

Is this with LogJam 3.0.x or 3.1?

Re: slow spell check

Both of those are 3.x (see the post above for instructions on getting 3.1). The spell checking speed there really depends on the software you use. Try the other options in the spell check preferences to see if it improves.
