LogJam 3.0.0 [Jul. 13th, 2001|11:10 pm]
LogJam

As some of you might have noticed, LoserJabber has now been officially renamed to LogJam.

And now, the first official release has been published. Have at it!

http://logjam.danga.com
(Note the new URL.)

This is basically an updated version of LoserJabber, with a lot of bugs fixed and a new dependency on libcurl.

RPMs will come whenever Tom gets around to it, I'm sure. DEBs depend on someone taking care of it, again, because the Debian maintainer of LoserJabber seems to be a little too busy.

This isn't good:

make[2]: *** No rule to make target `../pixmaps/livejournal.xpm', needed by `login.o'. Stop.

I take it livejournal.xpm is missing from this version...

When I copied the file from an old version of loserjabber over to there, it resumed compiling, and it's working so far.

Neat! :)

Updated the website copy, so this shouldn't happen for anyone else.

I'll test it better, this time... yeah, it work. :)

I noticed this journal's username was changed (rah!) -- You might want to fix the Name/Website/Bio fields in its user info to match.

I can take the job of making Debian packages, but I'm leaving in half an hour for a 5 day vacation. I'll see what I can do with net access there (I have a serious bug on aewm to fix already).

You might want to look at the work I did, http://www.sacredchao.net/software/dists/unstable/main/source/. It should drop right into LogJam and build GNOME and non-GNOME packages.

I'm sorry to see you've stopped, but I respect your reasons.

Actually, packaging LogJam debs is the one thing I'm going to continue to do.

However, I'm away from home for the next 3 days, so if someone wants to pick up my slack until then, that would be great.

No rush... It'd be appreciated.

I'd give Christian first dibs or whatever, 'cause I have the feeling Debian maintainers get defensive about "their" packages.

I've put up non-stripped-binary LogJam .debs from CVS at http://www.compwiz.nu/debian/unstable

You can also add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list for binary & source packages, respectively:

deb http://www.compwiz.nu/debian unstable/
deb-src http://www.compwiz.nu/debian unstable/

RIP lj

aw, I have nothing whatsoever to do with this community or client, but I quite enjoyed using a service whose official client called itself "loserjabber". this particular manifestation of miscellaneous contempt will be missed!

Re: RIP lj

We're all corporate now.

When you compile logjam, you can add a --enable-loserjabber switch and it'll call itself "LoserJabber" in all of the relevant places. :D

Re: RIP lj

Hmm.. I saw the --enable-loserjabber switch in configure --help... but it apparently doesn't do anything, everything still installs as LogJam.

..though looking at it, it *does* call itself LoserJabber in the "About" box.. it just doesn't change the name of the binary, is is supposed to? The configure --help description seems to imply that it does...

Re: RIP lj

Yikes. I forgot about that.

I doubt I can make it produce different binaries based on a configure switch... (not so much a limitation of autoconf as it is a limatition of my understanding of it)
but it is trivial to rename, yeah?

Re: RIP lj

Hmm... not that I know autoconf that well.. but doesn't it already have an option in it to rename the binary (putting it's name through sed)? Just a pondering... I have no problem renaming the thing by hand at all.. ;)

Re: RIP lj

How about just running an ln -s at the end of the make install?

I'm an autoconf idiot, but that's what I'd do...

Re: logjam openbsd port

I never figured out the threading problem... :\

So it isn't really urgent.

debs are available for GNOME and non-GNOME again.

http://www.sacredchao.net/software/packages.shtml?package=logjam,logjam-gnome

http://www.sacredchao.net/software/packages.shtml#help has instructions on how to set up APT to automatically install and upgrade them.

Is there a list of fixed bugs?

I was using the version of LoserJabber that is part of Debian/Testing and I got a segfault while posting a very large entry (~20k I believe) Is this a known/fixed bug in LogJam?

There's a ChangeLog... but it's not particularly specific.

I am using an external library for the network code now, so bugs like those are less likely, but I can't give you a definite answer either way. :\

i finally, after a few pains-in-the-ass regarding some components i needed (like curl) that i didn't have, was able to get logjam compiled. (note that i never had a problem compiling loserjabber so i'm assuming the curl implementation is new...)

anyways, my question: do you have plans for a feature that notifies you when your friends post things in their journal? one of my windows-using lj friends told me their client had such a feature and i'd love it if mine did.

thanx and keep up the good work!
