I just tried to compile logjam 4.4.0 from sources on Fedora Core 2 with Gnome 2.6.0 .
it seems like *.la file of libgnomecanvas library was removed ,since i get following error :
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/libgnomecanvas-2.la'
gmake[2]: *** [logjam] Error 1
gmake[2]: Leaving directory `/home/alek/soft/logjam-4.4.0/src'

anyone had that problem ?

yes

>rpm -qa | grep libgnomecanvas
libgnomecanvas-devel-2.6.0-1
libgnomecanvas-2.6.0-1

This is a long shot, but may work. Try going to /usr/lib and lookning for whatever is there that's libgnomecanvas-X. Then create a soft-link to exactly what logjam is looking for. When done, do ldconfig and try to install again.

logjam doesn't directly depend on libgnomecanvas, so this is definitely a problem with your system and somewhat difficult to diagnose.

however, it's safe to get rid of all of your .la files. try:
cd /usr/lib
mkdir la
mv *.la la
cd /path/to/logjam
make clean
./configure --whatever-args-you-want

the make clean and configure are important to run again if you remove some la files.

In other words ,there is no more need in these *.la files for Gnome 2.6 system or libtool ?

I built FC2 RPMS for logjam 4.4.0. You can get them at http://www.bearcircle.net/RPMS/FC2/
