LogJam 4.4.0 [Apr. 7th, 2004|11:39 am]
LogJam
logjam
[evan]
We've released LogJam 4.4.0.

New:
  • redesigned poll creator.
  • "insert image" dialog; can pull image dimensions off of the network.
  • "insert command output" dialog.
  • buttons on the offline browser for getting to the original page of the entry
  • magic links: if you (Ctl+C) copy a URL from elsewhere, then select a bit of text and hit Ctl+L, LogJam will make it a link without popping up any dialog. This is way cooler than this description can make it sound. :)
  • the user label is now clickable, by popular request.

Fixes:
  • window positioning, non-UTF-8 music, history loading, default security, sync.

Get it from the LogJam page.

Special thanks to k001 for his contributions on this release. (gaal continues to contribute, too...)

Magic links are amazing, great thing! Thanks a lot. Non-UTF-8 music is also useful.

perhaps the page should be updated to include the dependency on gtk 2.4?

I decided against it after they slipped GTK 2.4 a few times... they're still fixing problems with the file selector even after the release.

ah, good. did you ever rule out gtkhtml2 completely as a replacement for gtkhtml3?

I spent a few hours at it and I couldn't make it not crash whenever I tried to use it. I might try again some other time...

I don't think the entire "server/user" label at the bottom should be clickable, since only the user part is configurable from that button. I also think having the username blue & underlined is still misleading, since it doesn't actually link to anywhere.
Also, in the poll creator, the label "Options" is misleading. At first glance, it looks like that means options/argument to that poll. It really should be "Answers." I happen to like the old interface better since it's most like the web interface, but I guess I lost again.

SRPM for Fedora Core 1

In case anyone's interested, I used the spec file from 4.3.1-2 to make a source RPM for 4.4.0. It builds cleanly on Fedora Core 1 (And should on RedHat 9 as long as you've got the required libs).

It's here in case anyone's interested.

My congratulations! As usual, my logjam RPM build is here.

Still, nothing is perfect in this world... The word "Nobody" in pollcreator is not translated, as you have changed it after releasing pre1. So here is a small patch.

Yay magic links! That's a cool feature that'll be a BIG timesaver for me.

One minor bug: Ctl+Alt+I is bound to both Insert/Image and HTML/Italic, rendering HTML/Italic inaccessible from the keyboard. I suggest binding Insert/Image to Ctl+I instead, which seems to be otherwise unused. The following patch will accomplish this:

--- src/menu.c.orig Wed Apr 7 22:51:28 2004
+++ src/menu.c  Thu Apr  8 01:15:40 2004
@@ -409,7 +409,7 @@
        0, NULL },
 { "/Insert/---", NULL, NULL, 0, "<Separator>" },
 { N_("/Insert/_Link..."), "<ctl>L", menu_make_link },
-{ N_("/Insert/_Image..."), "<ctl><alt>I", menu_insert_image },
+{ N_("/Insert/_Image..."), "<ctl>I", menu_insert_image },
 { N_("/Insert/_Journal Link..."), "<ctl><alt>L", menu_make_journal_link },
 { N_("/Insert/lj-_cut..."), "<ctl><alt>X", menu_ljcut, 0, NULL },

(There may be some fuzz in applying this, because I've rearranged the order of menus in my LogJam installation to be more logical to me.)
